Chriselle Tidrick has a varied performance life including work in modern dance, acrobatics, stilt dancing and aerial work. She has been blessed with more than 10 years of performance work with Alice Farley who creates stilt and dance characters with their own idiosyncrasies and movement vocabularies. In addition to theatrical productions, Chriselle has performed with Alice Farley Dance Theater at parties and events throughout the New York tri-state area and across the country. Chriselle has worked with Jody Sperling since 2007, appearing in Sperling’s trademark Loie Fuller-style dances as well as in acro-balance and stilt work. Chriselle has held two contracts at the The Metropolitan Opera, performing on stilts in Berlioz’s Benvenuto Cellini (Andrei Serban, director) and covering the stilt dancers in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (Julie Taymor, director). She has had further historical dance experience learning and performing the repertory of Isadora Duncan with Dances by Isadora. The lyrical phrasework of Catherine Gallant’s choreography has been an inspiration and a joy since 2004. And, Chriselle’s work with Toni Taylor’s Pi Dance Theater has not only offered the technical challenge of performing choreography based in Horton technique but the blessing of a voice of reason and a fiscal sponsor for the work Chriselle produces herself. In addition to live performance work, Chriselle appears on stilts in the Disney motion picture, Enchanted (Kevin Lima, director).
As a choreographer, Chriselle has created dance work, stilt work, and aerial work. In 2007, she founded her own company— Above and Beyond Dance. Her interest lies in fusing modern dance with circus arts techniques, and she feels there is a huge range of untapped potential in this blend. Chriselle successfully produced Seeking, the Above and Beyond Dance inaugural season at Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts in downtown Brooklyn (2008), and Ascendance the company’s 2009 season at The Flea Theater in lower Manhattan. Her work has also been shown in the New York area at: NYC Aerial Dance Festival 2010 (JCC Theater), Galapagos, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Sky Box (at the House of Yes), La Mama Moves Festival 2009, Streb, Spoke the Hub, WaxWorks, The Zipper Theater, Micro Museum, The Surrey at Skidmore College, The Belt Theater, BRIC, and Trinity on Main Fall Festival. www.AboveAndBeyondDance.com
